Meet Our Lead Pastor

Reverend Dr. Norman A. Brown

The Reverend Dr. Norman A. Brown is the Pastor of Springtown United Methodist Church, the Walterboro District, and serves as an Adjunct Instructor in Religious Studies at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie.

His Story

Who was ordained Deacon in the A.M.E.C. in 1978 and licensed to preach in the United Methodist Church in 1980. He was ordained a Probationary Deacon in 1982 and was ordained an Elder in Full Connection into the United Methodist Church of the South Carolina Conference in 1986.
 

Dr. Brown has served churches in North Orangeburg; Bennettsville; Seneca; Silver Hill in Spartanburg; St Paul in Camden; John Wesley in Greenville, and New Light in Orangeburg. He holds degrees from Claflin University – B.A., Duke University Divinity School – M. Div., the University of South Carolina – Master of Religious Studies, the University of Chicago School of Theological Seminary – D. Min., and was one of the first African American Ministers of the South Carolina Conference to complete the Basic and Advance Clinical Pastoral Education – Full Time CPE Program from Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC.
 

Presently, Dr. Brown is the Pastor of Springtown United Methodist Church, the Walterboro District, and serves as an Adjunct Instructor in Religious Studies at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie.
 

He and his wife have been married for 39 years and are blessed with two adult children; one daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter. He is the 7th of 10 children of the late Seward C. Brow, Sr. and Mary H. Brown of Hemingway, SC.
 

Dr. Brown has served as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force Reserves; the Chairperson of the S. C. Conference Commission on Communications; and the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of S. C. United Methodist Advocate. Dr. Brown has written four Resolutions that were approved by the S. C. Conference that addressed and supported the Plight of the Black Male in SC; Single Member District across the state; the teaching of Black History in the Public Schools; a mandate funding to Strengthen the Black Church in the State of South Carolina for the 21st Century; and a mandate for the Flag Ship Black Church Assessment for in the SC United Methodist Conference.
